In Touch with Nature

An inter-generational nature weekend which uses our senses to heighten awareness and deepen our enjoyment of natural beauty. The Settlement's beautiful surrounds are the perfect backdrop to activities which generate joyful enthusiasm, leading seamlessly to a more reflective engagement and sense of our place in nature.

Facilitated by Cathy Macfie with the help of Young Friends.

Cathy Macfie (now retired) has a professional background in heritage interpretation. In 1987 she published In Touch, Nature Awareness Activities for Teachers, Leaders and Parents which drew inspiration from the work of Joseph Bharat Cornell in the Sierra Nevada, USA.
Sensory awareness is a key to better understanding the natural world of which we are part. Activities which flow from joyful enthusiasm to a more reflective engagement with nature have struck a chord with Quakers of all ages at a number of Settlement programmes, including outdoor Meeting for Worship.
Cathy was part of the 'Engaging our Young People' project and, with the support of Jos Rossell and CYPSC, she hopes to involve Young Friends in promoting these activities around the motu.
