- The Quaker Settlement is situated 5 minutes by car from the centre of Whanganui on the northern outskirts of the city, about 15 minutes from Whanganui airport.
- It is an intentional Quaker community of about 30 adults and children taking care, in a voluntary capacity, for the Seminar Centre.
- It is noted for its quiet peaceful atmosphere, beautiful and simple, award-winning facilities. Joy Cowley, after conducting a retreat here said “...the quietness here touches the skin like silk”. With a great deal of planting around the site we do get to hear birds.
- Visitors are welcome to use our 12.5 metre swimming pool at own risk.
- The Seminar centre, together with a circle of residents’ houses occupies about a quarter of the 20 acre site.
- We have some communal vegetable gardens, small orchards and graze some sheep. The community is in the process of doing some longer term planning with permaculture design principles to further integrate the already planted woodlots and natives. An archive of pre-European harakeke (flaxes) is maintained.
- A small pond, (5 minute walk) has been developed as a Garden of Peace for quiet retreat and contemplation.
- A perimeter walk round the site takes about 30 minutes is good for getting some exercise and taking in some excellent vistas.
